Russia’s war against Ukraine is relentless. Russian armed forces invading Ukraine in Donbas are attacking along a battlefront that stretches across Luhansk region and Donetsk region. While the number of attacks by Russia has remained steady, the severity of the attacks has increased. The Russians are targeting Ukrainian civilians in more and more of their assaults and bombardments.
Russian armed forces attacked Ukraine 30 times on June 26. In the battles on June 26, one Ukrainian soldier was killed in action and two were wounded in action.
The most intensive battle on June 26 was an on Vodyane, which is a village only 9 kilometres north-east of the outskirts of the city of Mariupol, which is in Donetsk region on the Azov Sea. In the attack, the Russians used 2K25 Krasnopol artillery. The 2K25 Krasnopol weapon system fires a laser-guided artillery shell with a high explosive warhead. This is a very expensive type of artillery which is only used by the militaries of the Russian Federation, Syria, Algeria, and China. Ukraine has never had or used the 2K25 Krasnopol weapon system. This is proof that the army attacking the Ukraine in Donbas is supplied with weapons and ammunition from Russia, and it is convincing evidence that the soldiers who make up that army are Russian soldiers. The use of the Krasnopol shows that Putin will spare no expense to annihilate Ukraine.
Russia attacked Ukraine 32 times on June 27. Three Ukrainian soldiers were killed in battle when Russia attacked Bohdanivka. Bohdanivka is 14 kilometres south-east of Dokuchayivsk, which currently lies in Russian-occupied territory. The soldiers who were killed in action served in Ukraine's 93rd Mechanized Brigade.
Russian mortar fire wounded two civilians in Zalizne, Ukraine. At around 16:00 on June 27, mortar fire coming from Russia's invasion-occupation forces in Horlivka injured a man (born 1951) and a woman (born 1958) who were in the yard of their house. They were taken to hospital – the man with injuries to his hands and the woman with shell fragments in her back. There was property damage.
On June 28, Russia attacked Ukraine 28 times. An intense battle was fought in and around the village of Pivdenne, which lies immediately to the west of Russian-occupied Horlivka. The Russians fired on a residential area of Pivdenne, Ukraine with mortars, grenade launchers and heavy machine guns. Under cover of the bombardment of civilians and with snipers, the Russian army attacked with a diversion reconnaissance group (DRG).
The reserve group of Ukraine's 24th Mechanized Brigade (King Danylo) met the Russians in battle west of occupied Horlivka. Platoon commander Valery Shishan, 58, was killed by a sniper while rushing to the aid of a heavily wounded soldier, Andriy Volos, 25, who died of his wounds. Speaking about Andriy Volos, the Ukrainian army press statement read: “He gave his young life to the Motherland.”
On the night of June 28, Russia attacked Novotoshkivske in the Battle of the Bakhmut Road. The Russians used a tank, mortars, automatic grenade launchers, and a BMP infantry fighting vehicle to attack Ukrainian defenders at Novotoshkivske. Novotoshkivske lies 50 kilometres west-north-west of the city of Luhansk, which is currently Russian-occupied.
In the “Svitlodarsk Bulge” north of Russian-occupied Debaltseve, Russian army bombardments caused the death of one Ukrainian defender and the wounding of another. This is noted in the battle report of the Joint Forces Operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, describing attacks, bombardments, events and activities in Donbas up to 7 o’clock in the morning on June 29.
Russian casualties over the past three days have been severe. On June 26, 3 Russian soldiers were killed in action and 5 were wounded in action; on June 27: 10 KIA; 7 WIA; on June 28: 9 KIA; 8 WIA. Total Russian casualties over this three-day period were 22 soldiers killed and 20 wounded. Over the same timeframe, 5 Ukrainian soldiers were killed and 7 were wounded.
The way Russians do battle falls into a fixed pattern. First, Russian artillery fires from residential areas of occupied Ukrainian towns and cities, using human shield terrorist tactics to hide behind civilians. The Russians avoid counter-battery fire by committing this war crime, because the Ukrainian army will not fire on its own people. The Russians target Ukrainian defenders and civilians with equal violence. In some cases, under the cover of the bombardment, Russia launches assaults across the battlefront with diversion reconnaissance group and also “human fodder” soldiers. The Ukrainian army suffers casualties in these open assaults with DRG groups. The Russian army suffers casualties in every fruitless attack of Putin’s mad, pointless war against Ukraine.
